Sacred Heart Appeal Fund

On May 26th, a letter from Archbishop Sean O’Malley informed us that Sacred Heart Parish must close.   A group of parishioners is organizing an appeal to this decision, and is exploring all avenues to keep the Sacred Heart community together.  To support this effort, it is necessary to establish a source of funding for expenses that the appeal and other activities may involve, such as expenses for a Canon lawyer, and / or a civil lawyer,  expenses of mailings and other general support services.

Toward that goal, a checking account has been opened with contributions (cash and checks) after the meeting following the prayer vigil Friday evening, June 18th.

Please note that at this time, a non-profit organization has not yet been formed (although plans to form a steering committee or steering board have begun – see the Steering Board information), and achieving “charitable organization” status may take half a year to a full year to obtain.   Because those events are still in the future, several pieces of information that should be important to you include:

1.     Contributions to this Fund are not tax deductible.

2.     Contributions to this Fund will only be used to support the appeal.   The goals of this appeal include among the originally stated goals, the continued preservation of the (spiritual) community of people who today form Sacred Heart.

3.     If Sacred Heart parish remains open, the Fund may continue to work towards the benefit of the Sacred Heart community.

4.      If Sacred Heart parish closes, the Fund may continue in support of that intentional community.  See the Mission Statement.

5.     Contributions can be left with the parish office in a sealed envelope marked “Sacred Heart Appeal Fund”.  Checks made out to “Sacred Heart Appeal Fund” can be deposited to the checking account.

The Sacred Heart Appeal Fund is entirely separate from your regular contribution to keep the parish running.  Please see the brief discussion on money issues on the Finance Action Committee page.

The Finance Action Committee is in charge of this Fund – if you have any questions or wish to help please contact them at finance@sacredheartappeal.org.
