AUTHORIZING OUR APPEAL
The effort to keep Sacred Heart open, and
to keep our community going, is being undertaken by parishioners who have
joined this effort simply because they love our parish and don’t want to see it
destroyed. We have decided to meet every
Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Parish Hall.
Anyone willing to help is invited to attend. Since neither our pastor, Fr. Colletti, nor
the parish council has taken responsibility for managing the appeal, the
question naturally arises, “Who is actually making decisions regarding this
effort, and who are the decision-makers speaking for?” This has become an especially pressing issue
now that we are raising money. +
At our June
22 meeting, we considered a proposal to hold a parish-wide election to vote in a
governing board or steering committee to take responsibility for the work
that’s being done. The idea behind this
proposal was to demonstrate the legitimacy behind our appeal and to make
certain that every interested parishioner is able to be represented in the
decision making process. Ultimately, we
decided it would be best to put off an election until and unless it becomes
necessary to form a legal entity that is separate from the parish. In the interest of making sure that we truly
are speaking for the parish as a whole we’ve agreed to implement the following
steps:
1)
We will make a newsletter available, as an insert, in each week’s issue
of the parish bulletin.
2)
We will create an organizational chart, naming each volunteer who has a
particular responsibility for the appeal.
3)
We will hold informational meetings, at the Parish Hall, after the 10
a.m. Mass each Sunday. ++
4)
We will keep our Tuesday meetings open to anyone interested in
attending.
5)
We will request authorization from the Parish Council and from our
pastor.
6)
We will keep the sacredheartappeal website updated with all pertinent
information.
Your input matters, and it matters to us that
everyone understand that we want to be transparent in our actions and to truly
represent the membership of the parish in our effort to keep Sacred Heart
alive. Please support us with your
prayers, your help, your ideas, and your continued awareness of our work. We’re all in this together.
If you wish to contact the organizers
of this effort please send an email to board@sacredheartappeal.org.

Preservation Summit held Wednesday evening, June 28th, 2004.
