re:  Closure of Sacred Heart Church Lexington

Dear Archbishop O'Malley:

I am in receipt of your letter dated May 18, 2004 regarding the “Promise for Tomorrow Capital and Endowment Campaign”, in which you asked me to continue my commitment to the campaign.  Unfortunately, one week later you closed our parish, Sacred Heart.  As co-chairman of the initial campaign with our pastor, Father Arnold Colletti, Sacred Heart was able to dramatically exceed its target goal in support of the archdiocese of Boston and our own parish.  The enthusiastic response of the parishioners of Sacred Heart to the campaign was a reflection of a vibrant catholic community drawing worshipers from all over the Boston metropolitan area because of the quality of its liturgy, outreach programs, its distinctive program of small faith groups and the welcoming spirit of its community.  My wife and I have grown in our faith and the love of Christ because of the Sacred Heart community.

The campaign for “Promise of Tomorrow” was a partnership between Sacred Heart parish and the Archdiocese.  The Archdiocese’s closure of Sacred Heart has nullified this partnership and I will be seeking other recipients for my pledge.
