Dear Archbishop O’Malley,
When priests molested kids - that was too bad
When their superiors covered up for them and allowed them to repeat their offenses – that was too bad
When priests were defrocked - that was too bad
When priests were jailed and brought to trial – that was too bad
When priests were killed in jail – that was too bad
When people sued to restore some of their losses – that was too bad.
When the church got in a position when it has to sell off its property to pay for the damages – that was too bad.
How long are we going to mutter ‘That was too bad’ and continue on?
When the poor, unsuspecting, faithful parishioner loses his place of worship, the leaders and friends he worshipped with, and all the tradition that he held dear to him – that is too bad too.
There comes a time when we stop saying ‘That was too bad’,
take control of the situation and stop the damage. There comes a time when we redeem ourselves
by our actions. That time for the church has come and it is now. Stop the senseless closing of active,
vibrant churches like Sacred Heart in
Respectfully submitted
