Planning Meetings:

Tuesday June 15th,  7:30pm

Friday June 18th, after prayer vigil at 7:30pm

The news of Archbishop Sean’s intention to close Sacred Heart was disappointing.  In Bishop Lennon’s letter he urges us to believe that there was nothing amiss in the plan to close a thriving parish.  He neglects to address any of our grounds for appeal in detail and fails to even note two of the canon laws which we raised, an indication of the lack of attention paid to the original document..  He also states that even if their statistics were wrong we should accept that our parish had to close for unstated diocesan reasons.

We are guessing that the unstated reasons are primarily financial and we are trying to come up with viable financial incentives that might persuade the diocese to reconsider closing the parish.  If you have ideas which you believe are viable we encourage you to write them down and  send them to the website.  We will meet at the parish hall on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. to discuss proposed alternatives.

We are also planning to proceed with the formal appeal and plan to retain a canon lawyer to assist in the process.  If you have particular knowledge about selecting a lawyer for our appeal, please, come to the Tuesday night meeting.

Similarly, we will probably need to set up a not-for-profit corporation to fund these pursuits.  If you have knowledge about these matters we would appreciate hearing what you know at the Tuesday night meeting.

The plan is to meet briefly together and then break into small task focused groups to determine a plan for the next few weeks and beyond.

We will try to meet again after the prayer vigil Friday June 18th which starts at 7:30pm.

Thanks,
